The sisterly bond of Justina Gaynor and Celia Gaynor, which delighted Flint City AFC fans over the summer, now benefits No. 6 ranked Michigan State University.

Justina and Celia have each started all 19 matches this fall for the Spartans, who went undefeated in Big Ten play en route to the regular-season title.  A junior, Justina was named to the All-Big Ten First Team, having scored three times and assisted twice. A graduate student, Celia has two goals and two assists.

The midfield duo from Shelby Township, MI has long stuck together — also sharing time at Notre Dame Prep, Nationals Development Academy, and Butler University.

Justina commented, “Playing with Celia has been so much fun.  We work so well together because we are best friends and know where each other is going to move and how each other is thinking. We have a certain telepathy that helps us work together on the field. Having such a close relationship off the field also helps us push each other to get better because we know that any constructive criticism comes from a place of love. We are always trying to make each other better.”

The next challenge for the prolific Gaynor sisters:

Michigan State kicked off Big Ten Tournament play Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Minnesota in East Lansing. Now, the Spartans are in Columbus, Ohio, where they will face Nebraska in a semifinal at 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon (Thursday, November 3rd.)

That match — as well as next Sunday’s Big Ten championship game — will be broadcast nationally via the Big Ten Network and streamed through the Fox Sports App.
