Aidan McConnell joins from University of Wisconsin

FLINT, Mich. — Flint City AFC has signed highly touted center back Aidan McConnell for the upcoming USL W League season, pending league and federation approval.

Last spring, McConnell helped the U.S. women’s U-20 national team secure a berth in the 2022 World Cup. The side qualified with a perfect three-match group stage at the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship in the Dominican Republic. In a 7-0 victory over the hosts, McConnell notched two assists. She has featured on youth national team rosters regularly since the U-15 level.

“Aidan is a steady defensive presence who will secure, lead and organize the back line.  Her experience at the national team level and at the University of Wisconsin will be invaluable for us." - Head Coach Michele Krzisnik

As a sophomore for the University of Wisconsin in the fall, she started all 18 matches and notched four assists, tied for most on the team. She was named to the all-Big Ten Tournament team.

McConnell started another 22 games for the Badgers as a freshman. After her debut season, she was named to TopDrawerSoccer’s Freshman Best XI Second Team for all of Division I.

In development, McConnell played for Dexter High School and the Michigan Hawks of the Elite Clubs National League (ECNL). She was Division I all-state in 2021 and helped her club sides win the Michigan State Cup in 2015 and 2016. She reached the ECNL national final in 2019.

McConnell has also earned several individual honors, including an All-American distinction from United Soccer Coaches and a selection to the ECNL Midwest regional team.
