FLINT, Mich. — Flint City AFC has signed veteran defender Shannon Browning for the upcoming USL W League season, pending league and federation approval.

“I chose Flint because I support the vision of the club in growing the women’s game and want to provide an exciting atmosphere for the community to enjoy,” Browning said. “I am eager to play alongside the next generation of talented players to help them become the best players they can be.”

Browning was named Detroit City FC’s most valuable player for the 2022 season in USL-W’s Great Lakes Division after tallying two goals and a team-high three assists. It was a homecoming year for the Brighton, Michigan, native after she had played overseas since 2017.

After five years at the University of Miami, she initially signed with FC Kibi International University Charme in Japan, then moved to Sweden's Lidkopings FK. She spent three more seasons with Kazakhstan's BIIK Kazygurt, twice reaching the UEFA Women’s Champions League round of 16.

Both times, her team was eliminated in the knockout stage by Bayern Munich.

Over 59 career starts at Miami (Florida), she notched a goal and eight assists, including notching five assists during her senior year. Browning was also a three-time team captain. As a redshirt senior in 2016, she was the lone Miami player on the field for all 1,756 minutes of the season.

Browning joined Michigan Hawks at the U-11 level. Her sides were state champions in 2008, 2010 and 2011, then Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) national finalists in 2012.
