Justina, Celia led Spartans to national No. 6 ranking

FLINT, Mich. — Flint City AFC has re-signed sister duo Justina Gaynor and Celia Gaynor for the upcoming USL W League season, pending league and federation approval.

The Gaynor sisters were part of Flint City’s inaugural W League season in 2022.

In the fall, the midfield pair further combined to make 45 starts for Michigan State University. They helped the Spartans to an undefeated regular season and a Big Ten Conference title.

Michigan State reached the conference tournament championship game and proceeded to host their first NCAA Tournament contest since 2009, beating Horizon League champs Milwaukee.

The Spartans ranked No. 6 in the nation going into the postseason.

Justina, in her junior season, tallied four goals and two assists, playing the second-most minutes of all MSU field players. She was named to the all-conference first team and tournament team, also earning selection by United Soccer Coaches to the North Region second team.

Celia, a graduate student, tallied three goals and two assists.

The sisters from Shelby Township, Michigan, have long stuck together — also sharing time at Notre Dame Prep, Nationals Development Academy, and Butler University.
