Central Conference semifinals and final coming to Kettering’s Atwood Stadium

Flint, Mich. — Second-year USL W League side Flint City AFC has been selected to host three postseason matches next week, including the Central Conference final.

First-round games will take place Thursday, July 6, at Kettering University’s iconic Atwood Stadium. Flint City AFC’s match kicks off at 7 p.m., preceded by another conference semifinal at 3 p.m. The Central Conference title game is set for 3 p.m. Saturday, July 8.

Tickets are available online, starting at $12 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger. One Thursday ticket is valid for both Thursday games. All men’s and women’s playoff games are included with Flint City Bucks and AFC season tickets.

All three historic playoff matches will be broadcast by Flint City’s live streaming partner, the Michigan Soccer Network, and can be viewed for free via YouTube.

Flint City AFC (8-0-3) was the first team to secure a spot in this year’s W League playoffs, clinching the Great Lakes Division crown June 17 with a 5-0 road victory over Detroit City FC.

Flint City AFC team president Costa Papista remarked, “We are excited that the USL W League has chosen Flint and Genesee County as one of four national playoff host sites. We are proud of our players and staff that have worked so hard to put us in this position — to bid for a regional hosting opportunity. It’s been quite a sophomore season, and so much credit goes to Michele, Doug, Dennis, and Shannon for building and developing such an impressive roster. We cannot wait to showcase Flint and Genesee County to the USL W League, our visiting teams, fans, out-of-town media and officials.”

A first-round win by Flint City AFC would result in the first day-night doubleheader with the Flint City Bucks. The USL League Two men’s side hosts AFC Ann Arbor at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Among next week’s visiting sides will be Heartland Division winner Minnesota Aurora FC (10-0-0), which reached the national championship game during USL W’s inaugural season in 2022.

Two other competitors are to be determined, with matches left to play.

One conference playoff berth will go to the Valley Division winner: Indy Eleven (7-1-1) or Racing Louisville FC (7-1-1), both members of last year’s Great Lakes Division.

And the final ticket to Atwood Stadium will be awarded to the Heartland Division runners-up: Chicago City SC (22 points, 7-2-1) or Chicago Dutch Lions FC (18 points, 6-4-0).
